A melody is like seeing someone for the first time. The physican attraction. Sex. But then, as you get to know the person, that's the lyrics. Their story. Who they are underneath. It's the combination of the two that makes it magical.

To me, "melody" gives way to "harmony" and then deeper aspects of the music, lyrics never come even close, for some reason!
This surprises me, knowing that you are acually into poetry... Have you ever tried reading through the lyrics without the music? That might help.
