Rape Aggression Defense Systems (R.A.D.)

Today i went to the first session of the R.A.D class offered in our school. R.A.D is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women to defend themselves against sexual assaults. It involves both informational, and practical lessons. I found the class very interesting and informative. For instance did you know that when you are facing an offender you have to stand in a way that your left side (weaker side) is closer to him? This will let you have your right arm free and ready to punch if you have to. Or if someone asks you the time, don't look down on your wrist, pull your arm up and maintain the eye contact. Or another thing she mentioned to me when i was practicing one-to-one with her was not to pull back the punch (which is what you tend to do especially if you do turbo-kickboxing!), let your fist stay there for a millisecond to deliver the maximum power, don't pull it back too quickly.

Anyways, there are still 3 more session of this to go, but i highly recommend you make time to take this class. If you are in US or Canada (check their website here).

It seems really interesting! Of course years ago, I have read some stuff about this subject; but your course seems to be more updated and technical!

Thanks for sharing such good information.

Interesting decision! Makes me imagine the time of facing an actual attacker, I can see my first reaction would be running while I'm bloody screaming... I definitely need that class :)

Good luck Jeerjeerak jan

Running is good. Screaming, bad.
If you scream, you'll start losing your breath or get a panic attach, instead yell strongly "NO", or "STAY BACK". This is more effective, as all big men had a woman who yelled "No" at them at some point of time. This will also attract attention more than screaming.

a male colleague of mine was assaulted (beaten/punched in the face) a couple of days ago on campus, in the stairways of a university parking lot ...

:D awesome!!!

This is good, no doubt it helps, but its still not enough... Though its good to get trained, and know, because at times may be just having the knowledge can safe ones life.

But there is a little something else to the training part, and thats what it adds to the general paranoia...I hope they address that as well :) but some how I am sure that will be skipped out of the topics ... coz its assumed right from the start that they are out there... which very well might be true.

but the tips sounds cool ...

did they teach you where to punch or kick? :P
or pluck your fingers in his/her eyes? hit hard on throat, probably adams apple? use your elbow? Elbows the best ;) any one whos played basketball knows this....

Keep Safe dear Jeerjeerak!! Moreover, stay healthy!
